Saturday and Sunday April 9 and 10th I attended Monsterpalooza in Burbank. Monsterpalooza is the premier convention for fans of creature features and things that go bump in the night. The convention offers a rare opportunity to celebrate monsters with the people that bring them to life. The “Museum” showcases outstanding prop effects. The vendor hall is crammed full of monster related art, masks and props. Special effects and makeup artists divulge trade secrets and war stories. Experienced cosplayers walk around in elaborate creations. The total effect put me in the Halloween spirit. I only planned on attending Saturday, but I was having such a good time that I returned for Sunday as well.
Both days I had the pleasure of visiting with some of my favorite dark artists including Clint Carney, David Richardson, Dienzo, Eric Pigors, and Krystopher Sapp, and the man responsible for introducing me to most of them, Hyaena Gallery owner Bill Shafer. I also got to meet some incredible artists such as Bryson Ahlstrom, Justin Mabry, Kyle Thompson, Neil Winn, and Robert Short.
While I did not get to see any of them, the hall was abuzz that Guillermo del Toro, Rick Baker, J.J. Abrams and Jon Favreau all went through the vendor hall to get their monster-fix.
There’s way too much for just one post, so all week long I’ll be sharing interviews, photos and products from the Convention.

well first I have to say that you look marvelously monsterish- as does your photo companion. I like the ogre- well more accurately, I would not like to meet the ogre in a dark alley. Sounds like the perfect event for you and all the monstrosity fans in the world.
